Job Description

Description

Teaching Artists (ages 22+) support their Lead Teaching Artist and a team of Apprentices (ages 14-21) to create a public art and community impact project on a seasonal basis (Summer). This job is available to artists with advanced technical skills who are excited to share their craft with the next generation. Seasonal project teams most often paint massive outdoor murals, but past projects have also included creative writing, dance, fashion, filmmaking, photography, and research. Teaching Artists' objective is twofold: to support the successful completion of a seasonal project; and to nurture Apprentices' skills in collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, goal orientation, and growth orientation.

Teaching Artist wages are $24.37 an hour. Teaching Artists work 30 hours per week for an 8-week period, beginning in early June. Scheduled work hours are subject to change owing to inclement weather, but are typically between 8am - 3pm, Monday through Friday. Teaching Artists must attend mandatory orientation on May 28-29 between 9am - 1pm.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to the Lead Teaching Artist assigned to the project.
  • Support in the oversight of Apprentices assigned to the project.
  • Support the Lead Teaching Artist with the development and execution of the project's weekly plans.
  • Provide hands on technical artistic support for the project through instruction to Apprentices.
  • Lead the organization and maintenance of the project's studio site, materials, and PPE.
  • Create and maintain a safe and positive team dynamic onsite.
  • Uphold ArtWorks' policies and procedures.

Requirements

Qualifications and experiences:
  • Must be at least 22 years old at the start of employment.
  • Must be available during scheduled work hours, with minimal conflicts.
  • Must commit to ArtWorks' mission, vision, values, culture and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility Plan.
Skills and abilities:
  • Advanced artistic skills, as evidenced by a strong visual portfolio.
  • Advanced organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced communication skills, oral and written, that include listening, receiving and giving feedback.
  • Intermediate teaching skills, as evidenced by the ability to instruct Apprentices with varying degrees of artistic knowledge and ability.
  • Intermediate leadership skills, as evidenced by the ability to take initiative, balance priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Eager to collaborate, work with others, and motivate a diverse team of young people.
The Payoff:
  • Be part of an amazing mission and make a mark in transforming the Greater Cincinnati region with public art, building community, and investing in young artists.
  • Be part of a dynamic team that embraces a growth mindset.
  • Be part of a collaborative, creative, and flexible work culture that is people-centered.
  • Join a team that values diversity, equity, and inclusion in community-centered work that creates positive change. Read our full commitment here .
To Apply:

Please include 5 portfolio samples that show your distinct style and range as an artist. Please combine all images into one PDF document no larger than 4MB.
